All of our ducky trips are accompanied by a licensed guide. On larger rivers we use oar-powered rafts and catarafts to accompany the duckies. Oars give the guide exceptional maneuvering ability and the raft or cataraft is capable of carrying multiple swimmers (and lunch!). On smaller rivers, the guide will be in his or her own ducky or hard-shell kayak. Before the trip, the guide will provide a safety orientation specific to ducky trips. On the water, the guide will lead the way through the rapids.
Cedar River ducky trips start in Indian Lake, NY. The river is mellow and meandering through high alpine meadows. There are two rapids on the Cedar that we will scout and have the choice to run or portage.
We stop for lunch at the confluence with the Hudson River at a nice campsite. This is the same campsite used for the 24-mile, 3-day overnight Hudson River rafting trip.
After lunch we paddle 3 miles down the Hudson to the confluence with the Indian River, which is the end of the trip. A short walk up a trail brings us to our shuttle vehicles.
