Lower>Upper Double HeaderApril 30, 2011 (Sat) The Gorge was too high to run today, so we ran the Lower Gorge. This is only the second time in 15 years that we haven't been able to run the Upper Hudson Gorge because of high water. After the Lower Gorge run a bunch of guides in rafts and kayaks went for a late day run on the Upper Gorge. The Indian River was running at twice the normal volume. Brad Rafferty from Adirondac Rafting Co. flipped his raft in The Narrows, but got it back together before Mile Long Rapid. He did lose his Dad's Norse Guide paddle though. I was in the 14' cat and had one near flip at the bottom of Blue Ledge rapid. The last wave in the center wave train is a hole at 9.3 feet. Typewriter surfed out of it. Must have been something to see from another boat. Today this 17 mile trip took just over an hour and a half.
