Rafting the Moose River is intense. Experience is a must as there are some critical moves that require precise maneuvering of the raft. The trip starts off with 3 long difficult class IV-V rapids, Iron Bridge, Tannery and Rooster Tail. Then it's on to the steep drops, Froth Hole, Mixmaster, and Elevator Shaft. Trip ends just before Fowlersville Falls.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Without a doubt, the Moose River is the most exciting and physically demanding whitewater river that NCRC offers trips on. We require our Moose River guests to have prior class III or above rafting experience or similar experience. The Moose River's big whitewater and steep drops require guests to paddle continuously and precisely as a team. All participants must be strong swimmers that are capable of assisting in their own rescue in whitewater. Do not book this trip if you are significantly overwieght (BMI of 35 or greater and an upper weight limit of 275 lbs), out of shape, or unable to paddle continuously. Minimum age is 18 years old.
MESSAGE TO BEGINNER RAFTERS
The Moose River is not for beginners. A Class IV-V whitewater river experience is filled with intimidating river features like towering waves, steep drops and blind horizon lines. The safety of the guests and our guides is our primary concern. On the Moose River particularly, we need to be able to rely on you to follow all guide commands and paddle aggressively in all situations. In such circumstances, we do not want to put the beginner to the test. Doing so puts everyone's safety at risk. We want you to enjoy your experience with friends and family, so we recommend that you begin on a river that matches your experience level.
CANCELLATIONS / HIGH WATER / LOW WATER
In the event of extremely high water, and the Moose River is unsafe for rafting (above 7 feet), we reserve the right to move trips to the Hudson Gorge. If the Moose is too low for rafting (under 4 feet), guests will have a choice to run the Hudson Gorge that day or reschedule on the Moose River.

You need to provide the insulation to wear under the wetsuit and against your body. The most commonly used are synthetic long underwear, similar to what you would wear skiing. Bring wool or fleece socks that will fit inside the booties. Bring a wool or fleece hat to fit under a helmet. Please no cotton.
